There has been a lot of anticipation surrounding the ban on disposable vapes, with both people who rely on them to help curb their tobacco urges and retailers alike wondering what will replace them as the most popular vapes for sale.

The reality is that we are unlikely to know for sure in the short term; the Tobacco and Vapes Bill only bans the sale of disposable vapes, so anyone who feels like they need them has likely stockpiled and taken advantage of particularly deep clearance sales.

Depending on how much they vape, that could be enough of a supply for the next few months, but at some point, they will inevitably have to choose a new type of vape, and one potential option is our wide range of big puff vapes.

But what are they, do they have any benefits over a new generation of pod-based refillables, and are they worth the price?

What Are Big Puff Vapes? 

Big puff vapes combine the ease of use of a prefilled disposable with the added longevity and versatility of either a conventional tank-based box mod or a refillable pod vape.

Unlike disposable vapes, they comply fully with the new regulations, featuring a replaceable e-liquid container, a built-in 2ml tank, and a rechargeable battery.

They use either a slot system to load the container, the pod and the battery together, and once they are loaded they provide significantly more puffs than a typical disposable vape could, which explains not only the name but the huge number of puffs promised on the packaging.

The container itself can have a capacity of up to 10 ml either to provide additional capacity by using the larger container to fill up the smaller pod or can consist of a range of 2 ml containers to allow multiple flavours without having to swap out pods and often waste the e-liquid left within them.

Multi-pod big puff vapes can vary in how the flavours are changed but typically use either a rotating chamber or a twist on the mouthpiece to make it easy.

Are They Refillable?

They are refillable, rechargeable and as such, conform to the legal requirements for a reusable vape.

According to official government advice, a reusable vape has a rechargeable battery, refillable or replaceable container and a replaceable coil if it uses one to heat up the vapour, although in many cases the latter two parts are combined into a single refill cartridge.

As with pod-based vapes, the exact flavours and replaceable cartridges available will vary by brand, but with a lot of disposable vape manufacturers moving into both, there will be plenty of favourite flavours available.

What Are Their Advantages Over Other Vape Types?

Whilst all vapes available on the market today are refillable and therefore will last forever if well-maintained, the major selling point of a big puff vape is that once it is set up, it will provide a significant number of puffs before the cartridge needs to be replaced or refilled.

They are typically very competitively priced, so they can be particularly cost-effective, particularly when used with refillable cartridges to minimise the amount of components you need to dispose of.

They tend to be larger units unlike a lot of pod mods, so they have larger battery packs that can be easily recharged, although this can vary considerably between the many different products available.

However, the biggest benefit over other vape types for people who are switching to them from disposable vapes is that they are extremely easy to use.

There is no need to spend time filling a tank, activating a pod and fiddling with settings to get the perfect satisfying feel from the vape. As with a disposable, they are activated by inhalation and only need a couple of clicks to install the battery and the separate container to function.

Why Should You Opt For A Conventional Vape Or Pod Mod Instead?

Some people find that a big puff vape is a long-term solution for them, but there are some limitations that can be a problem if you have specific needs when vaping.

They have the same issue as disposable vapes of having a fixed, basic airflow, which means that if the activation action is not satisfying there is no real way to fix it.

The replacement cartridges are typically more expensive per unit than pods and especially bottles of e-liquid, and at present have a more limited number of flavours available depending on the brand you use.
